2023 Summer Cooking Camp

Ms. Yang's Fun Cooking and Arts Camp

Food is such an essential part of Chinese culture. I grew up eating my mother's delicious home-cooked meals while learning about the nutritional information of each ingredient. Cooking has always been my interest and I find it's rather a fun creative process than a boring daily chore. My mom told me what's healthy, and what's not; what kind of food cools your body down, and what ones heat it up. A balanced meal is crucial to our health. I was often told that it is better to maintain your health through a balanced daily diet than to take medication when getting sick.

Food is not only a source of nutrition, it also brings people closer. We use food to help us celebrate special events and holidays, the significant foods to prepare and consume for each of these are related to the traditional story, or are made special simply because two words sound very similar*.

This summer Ms. Yang would like to invite you to join our cooking camps to learn about the art of Chinese cooking and the relationship between food and health. We will cook daily lunch and prepare healthy snacks together. Besides food and cooking, we also incorporate language learning, crafting, swimming, etc into our daily activities. On Friday, the campers will eat dim-sum as lunch in a high-end Chinese restaurant in SW Austin, they'll have a chance to meet the chef, and hear her story about how pursuing a passion for healthy Chinese cuisine led her to a successful career.

Our camp size is limited. Camp registration is ended.
